The design of Expedition Technology’s 4th-floor office space at 13865 Sunrise Valley Drive in Herndon, VA, drew inspiration from exploration and topographical maps, with a strong focus on blending nature with technology. The existing facility floor served as the foundation for the design, incorporating various elements to create a seamless transition from land to sea.
Key design features include:
- Nature and Technology Integration: A backlit Arktura wall with shapes resembling water and a moss wall referencing land and air themes create a sensory shift from land to sea. The design incorporates a color palette, textures, organic shapes, and oceanic white noise to reinforce this transition.
- Team-Centric Layout: The space prioritizes large, dedicated team rooms configured in a classroom layout with sliding barn doors for flexibility. Core drills in each room provide additional flexibility and cord management. Writable surfaces on almost every wall encourage idea-sharing and collaboration.
- Familiar and Inviting Environment: The design always centered on Expedition Technology’s team-centric ethos, ensuring the space felt familiar and inviting. Amenities and dedicated spaces, such as a central bar and various-sized conference rooms, cater to both internal and external gatherings.
- Littoral Zones Concept: The concept of “littoral zones,” where land meets sea, differentiates the fourth floor from the third while maintaining cohesion between the floors.
